Himachal is in the western Himalayas. Covering an area of 55,673 square kilometers (21,495 sq mi), it is a mountainous state. Most of the state lies on the foothills of the Dhauladhar Range. “Snow-abode” exact meaning of Him-achal is a state of India located in Northern India. It is bordered by Jammu and Kashmir on the north, Punjab and Chandigarh on the west, Haryana on the south-west, Uttarakhand on the south-east and by the Tibet Autonomous Region on the east. The name was coined from Sanskrit him ‘snow’ and achal ‘mountain’, by Acharya Diwakar Datt Sharma, one of the state’s most eminent Sanskrit scholar.

With spectacular snowy peaks and plunging river valleys, beautiful Himachal is India’s outdoor adventure playground. From trekking and climbing to rafting, paragliding and skiing, if it can be done in the mountains, it can be done here. A convoluted topography of interlocking mountain chains also makes Himachal a spectacular place simply to explore, by bus, car, motorbike, jeep or foot.
